Booking in advance offers significant discounts on standard fares - book
at the last minute and expect to pay premium fares.

Some operators offer to sell tickets on the train - but check first, as not all train
operators offer this facility, and if you are caught on those that don't, and are without
a valid ticket, there is an on-the-spot fine of £10.

There are now express trains to most of the main London International Airports.  Prices vary, but
are generally around £10 one way.

You can tube it to London from Heathrow via the Piccadilly Line for around £3 - £4, it just takes
longer!  Although try not to do this during rush hour, as you will have to try and manage your bags
in overcrowded stations.  A taxi to London from Heathrow could set you back as much as £45
and take 40 mins to over an hour depending on time of day and the traffic levels.
