Short
day or weekend trips to Brighton and Bath are popular, particularly
during the summer
months - although being coastal villages they are popular
at this time, so if you're planning on
staying the night, it would pay to book accomodation in
advance. York is a must see as well -
it is one of the few remaining medieval villages with much
of it's original fortress wall surrounding
the town still standing. Rye is also a great little
village to visit if you want to get away from it all,
or visit Canterbury and marvel at the architecture and beauty
of the cathedral and it's surround
churches.
The
Cottswolds or the Lake District are lovely to visit during
the Summer, or by Winter if you want to
get away for some piece and quiet. Many of the stone
cottages you see in brochures are available
for rent - and are quite reasonable when the price is split
amongst a few friends. Bed and Breakfasts
can be found aplenty at a range of prices to suit your budget
as well.
When
you have longer than a couple of days to spare, take a weeks
drive through Cornwall - this is a
lovely part of the country, rich in history and has many
lovely coastal villages to visit. For a touch of
something different stay overnight in a three hundred year
old Bed and Breakfast, and don't forget to
visit the Minnack Theatre - this is an open theatre made
entirely of stone, on the edge of a cliff and
is only open during the Summer Months for Shakespearean
plays. This has to be on the top ten
things that are a must see in the UK.
If
you only have the day - why not take a country walk? There
are numerous options - check out
your local bookstore in the city for a Book on UK Country
Walks and plan your day out.
Wander through the beautiful rolling hills and farmland,
or woods - stop at a country pub for
a hearty lunch, before heading back into the city. There's
nothing quite like it.
