Travelling

Going travelling and need to know what vaccinations you'll need, or special
precautions you'll need to take?  You have two options:

  • You can call the Vaccination clinics listed in the TNT.  Their advice is free and can
organise the vaccinations for you as well.  Or,
  • You can obtain a Health Brief by telephoning the Travellers' Health Line.  You leave your
name and address, the countries you are visiting (up to 6 in any one journey) and the dates
of arrival in those countries.  You will also be asked how you're travelling (ie: backpacking and
intending to stay in hostels).  They then send out your Health Brief by first class post.

Travellers' Health Line Telephone: 0906 8 224100 (Calls are charged at 60p per min at all times)

Insurance

Whilst New Zealand and Australia have a reciprocal agreement with the UK, whereby you can receive
basic health care - you may want to check out your options for insurance while travelling.  You can take
an E111 form with you, which covers you for basic care while travelling in the EU (you pay and
then claim it back), but read the small print.  Basic care means exactly that - breaking a leg in the
Alps could set you back a couple thousand pounds, and this is not covered under the E111 system.
